Here are the settings needed to connect to the departments IMAP server to access your DSS email and for sending messages through Duke's main SMTP service.

Duke IMAP Settings

Incoming IMAP Mail Server

  • Server Name: outlook.office365.com
  • Use SSL: Turn ON SSL connections
  • Port: 993 (should be set automatically when you activate SSL use)
  • User Name: NetID@duke.edu
  • Password: Use your Duke NetID password

Outgoing SMTP Server

  • Server Name: smtp.office365.com
  • User Name: NetID@duke.edu
  • Password: Your Duke NetID password
  • Server Port: 587
  • Use secure connection: STARTTLS


Legacy Departmental IMAP Settings

NOTE: No new mail will be recieved at these accounts.

Incoming IMAP Mail Server

  • Server Name: imap.stat.duke.edu
  • Use SSL: Turn ON SSL connections
  • Port: 993 (should be set automatically when you activate SSL use)
  • User Name: DSS Account Name (used to log into DSS linux computers)
  • Password: Same password used to log into DSS Linux computers

Notes: The User Name is just your user name, not "username@stat.duke.edu"

Outgoing SMTP Server

  • Server Name: smtp.stat.duke.edu
  • User Name: Your Duke NetID
  • Password: Your Duke NetID password
  • Server Port: 587
  • Use secure connection: STARTTLS
